This flexible kit includes all the components required to build 10 solar energy related projects - all with no-soldering required. In addition, the breadboard and components can easily be re-used as your electronics prototyping skills grow.

The project booklet is very easy to follow, and is suitable for absolute beginners as well as those getting re-acquainted with electronics. The book starts with beginner projects and grows in complexity as it moves on. Each project describes the circuit theory of operation, and gives you both a schematic diagram AND a drawing showing where each component and wire goes on the breadboard - You won't find a better project booklet anywhere!

This kit contains the following components:
  • 1 x High-Quality 456 point Breadboard
  • 2 x Transistors
  • 1 x 10F220 Pre-programmed PIC Microcontroller IC
  • 1 x 1.5" x 1.25" Solar Cell
  • 2 x LEDs (1 Red, 1 Yellow)
  • 8 x Resistors
  • 4 x Diodes
  • 1 x 2 x AAA Battery Holder
  • 1 x Buzzer
  • Assorted Short Jumper Leads
The project booklet covers the following projects:

  • Flashing Solar LED - (Solar-powered attention grabber)
  • Solar-Powered Cricket - (As long as the sun shines, the cricket will chirp)
  • Simple Solar Battery Charger - (Free energy to keep your batteries in shape)
  • Solar Battery Charger with 'Charge' Indicator - (An LED turns on when the batteries are charging)
  • Solar Musical Instrument - (More light = higher tone)
  • IR Remote Control Tester - (Listen to your IR Remote)
  • Solar Garden Light - (LED turns on at dusk and turns off at dawn)
  • Solar Motion Detector / Beam Break Detector - (Announce wanted or unwanted guests)
  • Solar-Powered Alarm Armed LED - (Charges during the day, scares burglars at night)

The breadboard is a high-quality round-hole style breadboard with a full silkscreen - all of the rows and columns are numbered. Bussed strips on either side of the breadboard are provided for easy power and ground connections.

The only additional parts required are 2 x AAA rechargeable batteries and a pair of scissors. Bright sun light or a 60W incandescent bulb are also required - results will be poor if using CFL bulbs
