Lead-free solder is perfect for those who need to meet RoHS, OSHA or other standards that require the limitation of hazardous materials. Or even for those who are making something that someone would wear, that may come in contact with skin routinely.
It is not recommended for those who don't need to meet these requirements. Lead-free solder requires at least a 60 watt soldering iron. And even higher wattages if you are soldering on aluminum boards. In general, lead-free is much harder to work with, needs higher temperatures for longer periods of time, and it does not flow as easily as leaded solder.
